What Is A Home Energy Audit?

ANALYZING ENERGY EFFICIENCY

EcoSmart Home Services is an authorized provider of EnergizeCT’s Home Energy Solutions (HES) and Home Energy Solutions – Income Eligible (HES-IE) programs offered by Eversource, United Illuminating, and natural gas companies.

Our BPI-certified building analysts will conduct a thorough analysis of your home’s energy efficiency. Their goal is to identify key energy-saving and money-saving improvements that will make your home healthier and more comfortable, and maximize your home’s durability and safety.

What turns up during your energy audit may surprise you. Homeowners are often shocked to discover that all the little air leaks throughout their house add up to the equivalent of a window or two being left open year-round!

WHAT WE DO

Our home energy efficiency assessments cover these and more:
N
Exterior inspection: We visually inspect your home's building envelope and check for gas leaks, asbestos, and anything else that may harm you, your family, or your home.
N
Air leaks: A blower test will identify leaky windows and doors. We'll caulk and seal air gaps when possible and discuss other needed work.
N
Insulation: Our infrared insulation check identifies any areas where insulation has settled, was improperly installed, or is missing altogether.
N
Lightbulbs: We will change up to 25 light bulbs in your home from incandescent light bulbs to LEDs (includes eight specialty bulbs).
N
Combustion appliances: We evaluate gas stoves, furnaces, water heaters, dryers, fireplaces, and other combustion appliances to ensure they are functioning properly, efficiently, and safely.
N
Ductwork: We determine whether your HVAC system is operating with enough air flow by taping off all registers and pressurizing the ductwork. We’ve found ducts leaking as much as 30%-40% of their air! That’s like throwing $30-$40 of every $100 out the window. We'll make quick fixes and recommend any more extensive measures.
N
Water system: We will replace inefficient showerheads, install faucet aerators, and insulate hot water pipes to save you money on hot water as well as water usage in general. We'll also lower the temperature on your hot water heater if it's set too high.
N
Energy data analysis and report: We will evaluate your gas, electric, oil, wood, wood pellet, and coal usage data as well as the information we gather about your home during our audit process. You'll receive a report describing the improvements we made, your estimated savings, and our top recommendations to save even more.
N
Kitchen table wrap-up: The most important part of our residential energy audit is when we sit down with you in person or virtually to review your results - the good and the bad. We'll discuss the rebates and financing you may qualify for, including state programs and federal tax credit. We'll present unbiased recommendations based on how long it will take for upgrades to pay for themselves.
N
Audit results: We will email the report to you with the next steps you can take to save on your energy consumption. You will also receive an email with the Home Energy Score for your home.

Our comprehensive energy testing, combined with our years of construction experience, make us uniquely qualified to assist you from audit to upgrade.
